Word for Today: Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Hebrews 9:23-28 The Blood of Jesus.
Memory Verse: 9:24(KJV)
For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

Today, we will look at the blood of Jesus that is powerful to cleanse all sins, the blood that was shed to redeem us. Unlike the earthly High Priests who had to offer sacrifices for the people yearly, Jesus did it once and for all. We enjoy the benefits of Christ death on the cross. I am so privilege that the blood of Jesus is sufficient to cleanse my sins, your sins and the sins of the world. And as we study about the blood of Jesus, I want to address that person that is currently feeling condemned and probably thinking that Jesus will never forgive their sins. Jesus loves us so much to leave us in our wretched state. He has already shed his blood to redeem you, why not approach him today and ask for his mercies. His hands are wide open and his blood is ever ready to cleanse you. Amen

Now let us look at verses 23-24
23  It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

The earthly tabernacle was just a copy, therefore it was necessary for the animal sacrifices to be made. It would have been a waste for Jesus to offer himself for something that isn’t real, and was going to be destroyed. Jesus had to offer himself for a much better tabernacle, one that won’t fade away and that is forever.

From Verse 25, we see the difference between the earthly High Priests and Jesus. The Levitical Priests were only allowed to enter the tabernacle once a year and they needed to shed blood that wasn’t theirs for the cleansing of both their sins and the people’s, but Jesus didn’t sacrifice the blood of animals, he sacrificed his own blood. Now he is permanently in heaven, sitting at the right hand of God interceding constantly for you and me. Since he was our perfect sacrifice, there is therefore no need for more sacrifices to be made.

The death and resurrection of Jesus had a huge effect all the way to creation time and even until the end of ages. The blood of Jesus is powerful enough to cleanse the sins from the beginning to the end of ages.  Now, I don’t need anybody to constantly make sacrifices to take away my sins because my great redeemer paid the price once and for all.

Verse 27 gives us a wakeup call. We all have our destinies in this world, one of our destinies as humans is to die and meet our Lord Jesus who gave his life for us. We have to be judged before we can see Jesus and it is whether or not we accept Jesus that will determine where we are going to be.

We have been warned not to harden our hearts, Jesus has been calling and he is still calling. He stands at the door and knocks (Rev 3:20). It is your choice to open the door of your heart to accept him or to ignore.

Remember everyone will be judged, nobody will take your place. You will stand alone. That is the destiny of man. It is only those who endure to the end that will reign with Jesus.
