Hebrews 6:9-20 God is not unjust
Memory Verse Hebrews 6:10 (KJV)
"God is not unjust; he will not forget your
work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue
to help them."
We saw in our previous passage that the Hebrew
Christians were not growing in the Lord as they ought to. They have become dull
of hearing and were no longer interested in the teaching of God’s word.
Although their walk with God was weak, they had strength in their work for God.
The author of this passage is not discouraged that
most of the Hebrew Christians have refused to change. He criticized them about
their walk with God in the previous passage but went on to commend them on
their work for God in today’s passage.
Good works are important in a person’s life but they
got nothing to do with one’s salvation. We have been saved by grace through
faith and not by our works. Our walk with God is more important than our work
for God.
The author encourages the Hebrew Christians to be
faithful to the end. We have been promised God’s rest; we can get that rest by
accepting Jesus and also by growing in our walk with him.
We should not to be lazy but imitate those who have
grown in faith. There are a lot of people to emulate. Jesus is our best
example. Apart from biblical examples we also have some men of God in our
present day. It is very good to have mentors especially people who are of the
same faith in Christ.
Our walk with God also includes helping other people
to improve their faith. When we continue to help other Christians grow
spiritually, God will surely reward us. He already promised us so many things
including an eternal inheritance.
It is quite difficult especially in our present
times to hold fast to the faith, there are a lot of distractions and
persecutions but we are told to fix our eyes on Jesus Hebrews 12:2 and rejoice
in times of persecution because Jesus has already overcame for us.
Let us continually bear in mind that God will reward
all those who endure to the end, this should be our hope as we run this race.
God has never fail and he will never fail. He has promised and he will fulfil.
Amen
