Word for Today:Wednesday, January 2, 2013

Hebrews 2:1-9 Pay Attention

Memory Verse:  Heb 2:6(KJV)

But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou are mindful of him? Or the son of man that thou visitest him?

This chapter is a continuation of yesterday’s study, where the author proved Christ to be more superior to the angels. Judgement under the law was very strict and disobedience had its punishment. If anyone deliberately rejected God’s law he was sentenced to die and the punishment was unchangeable. (Numbers 15:30). When angels were sent to carryout instructions in the ancient times, it was really terrible, for example the death of the first born in Egypt, and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

God’s message of salvation came through Jesus alone and we shouldn't make light of it. To do so has great consequences. It was difficult to escape the judgement carried out by the angels in the ancient times. The judgement of Christ will be more dreadful than that of the angels especially since Jesus paid for our salvation with his blood. The only way anyone can escape the judgement of God is by accepting his son Jesus, because Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. (John 14:16).

Now that we know the truth especially from our study yesterday, we should be careful not to reject Jesus and his word, neglect of the word of God is disastrous. Now is the salvation and there is a danger of drifting away. We should pay close attention to the gospel of Christ, study it, meditate on it and also apply it to our daily lives

Really who is man that Jesus loved so much to become like him, even lower than the angels just to save him? Man is God’s creation, a limited being that is lower than the angels, but Jesus with his glory and splendour willingly became man to save the world. He visited us because he wants to save us and communicate with us, He came to reveal God to man. He is the representation of man before God; he brought God to the earth and man to heaven.

God gave man dominion but man lost it in the Garden of Eden but Christ has recovered it and for the first time, man is going to be able to do something angels haven’t been able to do. Man is going to rule the world with Jesus. Angels don’t run God’s universe. They are messengers that rule under God. God’s plan for man also includes crowning him with glory and honour.

Let us always remember that Jesus loves us so much to leave us in our wretch state. Now that Jesus has played his part by dying to redeem us so that we can once more possess our lost inheritance, let us open our hearts to receive him. Hebrews 3:15 While it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. God’s promises still stands, let us be careful not to fall short of it. Hebrews 4:1. Be blessed.
